The OpenSea SEA airdrop is scheduled to launch this month as part of the rollout of OpenSea’s native $SEA token. The airdrop is expected to occur in February 2026, with the token launch planned for Q1 2026. Wallet eligibility has already been determined based on historical and recent platform activity.
OpenSea SEA Airdrop Tied to OS2 Platform Upgrade
OpenSea was founded in 2017 and became the largest NFT marketplace during the 2021 and 2022 market cycle. During that period, the platform processed more than 90 percent of NFT trading volume. Competition increased later as new marketplaces entered the sector.
In February 2025, OpenSea launched its upgraded platform known as OS2. OS2 expanded OpenSea’s functionality beyond NFTs. The update introduced cross-chain token swaps, wallet-based trading tools, and additional on-chain features. The $SEA token was introduced alongside this platform upgrade.
Eligibility Rules for the OpenSea SEA Airdrop
The OpenSea SEA airdrop is designed to reward both long-time users and recent participants. Historical users include wallets that traded NFTs on OpenSea before the token announcement. Active participants earned eligibility through OS2’s XP system.
XP points were accumulated by completing actions such as NFT trading, token swaps, asset bridging, weekly Voyages, and opening Treasure Chests. Wallet activity, XP totals, and chest tiers are used to calculate individual allocations.
Token Allocation and Distribution Details
OpenSea has stated that 50 percent of the total $SEA supply is allocated to the community. More than half of this community allocation will be available at launch. The token was created by the OpenSea Foundation without a private sale or early venture capital allocation.
There is no KYC requirement to claim the OpenSea SEA airdrop. U.S. users are eligible to participate. Users will claim tokens through wallets connected to their OpenSea accounts. On-chain wallet history is used to verify eligibility.
Specific claim instructions and final tokenomics details are expected to be released closer to the airdrop date.
